The one place the Pope did not visit this week
publication date: Sep 17, 2010
Hi,
I've been keeping my eyes open,
hoping to spot the Popemobile in these here parts this week and for good
reason.
Wednesday saw the Kerry National
at Listowel. Murtagh, O'Brien, Pat Smullen, Ruby Walsh and a certain AP McCoy
visited County Kerry on Wednesday (the latter somewhat mind bogglingly
interrupting his holiday in Portugal for a couple of rides in less than sunny
Kerry).
Surely a chance to see McCoy in
action would have attracted his Holiness before his visit to the UK?
Well, I went at least. Living in
Guernsey as I have done for the majority of my life, I don't get a chance to
meet these legends in their lifetimes so I had to make the effort on Wednesday
and, to quote one local "twas fierce craic" (which roughly translates
as "I quite enjoyed that")
I met McCoy and was greeted by a
" what are you fecking looking at?" type stare -the Champ must have
had his game face on! All in all an excellent day out.
So, Barney Curley and AP McCoy in
2 weeks. What chance the Kelly Brook hatrick by next Friday?
Elsewhere this week I want to
remind you of the efficacy of enhanced football trading.
Yes I am still harping on about
it, and for good reason, as there were 2 outstanding betting opportunities this
week.
Barcelona v Panathanaikos.
Barcelona were 1.15 pre match to win this Champions League match. Here is how
the game panned out.
Panathanaikos scored first. These
1.15 pre match odds for Barcelona rose to 1.76 - a gift if ever there was one!!
And 2 minutes later the chance to
trade came upon us. Nice profit. And while I am on the subject of Barcelona,
they did have another enhanced bet at the weekend. Barcelona went down 1-0 to
Hercules. Then they went 2-0 down to Hercules. I backed them at odds as high as
8 but they did not oblige this time.
Enhanced betting generally will
work. Not always though! So the lesson here is to have a staking plan and bet a
proportion of your bank each time an enhanced trading bet may appear.
Juventus v Lech Poznan
Let's look at how the game panned
out.
14' Artjoms Rudnevs (pen)
30' Artjoms Rudnevs
Giorgio Chiellini 45'
Giorgio Chiellini 50'
Alessandro Del Piero 68'
90' Artjoms Rudnevs
I was lucky enough to notice the
scoreline when Juventus were 2-0 down, and this is how I decided to enhance bet
this. Look at the first goal! It is a penalty. So, it is not from open play.
This fact gives me some
confidence to back Juventus. In this particular game, I experimented by backing
Juventus and laying Lech simultaneously. Juventus scored before halftime and
this is the profit produced.
I backed Juventus at odds of 4.82
(and bear in mind they were 1.33 pre match). When they scored, I laid Juventus
at odds of 3.35 for a £43 guaranteed profit.
When Lech Poznan were 2-0 up, I
laid them at odds of 1.76 for a stake of £131.58. When Juventus scored, I
backed Lech at odds of 2.66 for £86.86 for a profit for a £45 profit.
As you can see from the
scoreline, I could have held on and traded out for greater profit at 2-2 and
even greater profit at 3-2 to Juventus.
What can we learn from this?
• You must decide whether to
trade out as early as possible or wait in the hope that...
• Perhaps you can back the strong
favourite that has gone a goal down and lay the opponents and only trade one of
those bets after an equaliser/ goal scored by strong market leader. This way
you can hope that the strong market leaders come from behind and take the lead
so you can maximise profit.
• Trade out at any rate! Imagine
you had left your enhanced bet on Juventus without trading and that 90th minute
equaliser by Lech Poznan would have seriously darkened your mood.
Do look out for these, as I have
said many times before.
We've gone each way crazy this
September!
This September's What Really Wins
Money sees a real each way focus which I hope readers will enjoy. The Statman,
as mentioned last week, takes us on a statistical journey into each way
betting, Andrew David points, in a Derren Brown style, to the psychological
side of betting, and each way betting, and even the Patriarch has caught the
each way fever. I hope WRWM readers will find these very interesting and
thought provoking. Of course, there's lot's more in this month's WRWM including
an address by the Pope (that is pending!) and a centre spread of the Pope Mobile
for you to keep for yourself.
I've off now to sniff out more
enhanced football trades. I've even nagged myself into believing in this
strategy!!
Have a great weekend
